Description

Position Summary
The Sheriff Aircraft Pilot supports the Kern County Sheriff’s Office aviation unit by conducting helicopter operations in support of law enforcement, search and rescue, patrol, and public safety missions. Pilots are responsible for operating turbine helicopters in challenging environments while maintaining the highest standards of safety and professionalism.


Responsibilities
• Conduct law enforcement aviation operations
• Support search and rescue missions
• Perform patrol and surveillance operations
• Conduct low-level flight missions
• Operate aircraft safely and in compliance with applicable regulations
• Support Sheriff’s Office aviation operations as assigned


Requirements
• High School Diploma, GED, or Equivalent
• Valid FAA Second Class Medical Certificate
• Valid California Driver’s License
• FAA Commercial or Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with Rotorcraft-Helicopter Rating
• Minimum 2,000 Hours PIC Helicopter Time
• Minimum 500 Hours in Medium (Type 2) Turbine Helicopters
• Minimum 500 Hours PIC in Mountainous Terrain with Unimproved Landing Areas Above 4,500′ MSL
• Night Vision Goggle Endorsement
• Minimum 200 Hours PIC Utilizing Night Vision Goggles
• Minimum 500 Hours PIC Performing Low-Level Missions in Law Enforcement, Search and Rescue, Vertical Reference Operations, Fire Service, or Military Operations


Preferred Qualifications
• Certified Flight Instructor – Rotorcraft Helicopter
• Night Vision Goggle Instructor Endorsement
• Vertical Reference and External Load Experience
• UH-1H or Similar Bell Helicopter Experience
