Position Summary
The Air Interdiction Agent (AIA) conducts aviation law enforcement operations in support of U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations. Agents perform airborne surveillance, interdiction, intelligence gathering, and law enforcement missions designed to detect, prevent, and interdict illegal activities, including smuggling, terrorism, and unlawful border crossings.

Responsibilities
• Conduct air patrol, surveillance, pursuit, and interdiction missions
• Monitor suspect persons, vehicles, vessels, and aircraft engaged in illegal activity
• Collect, refine, and analyze tactical and strategic intelligence
• Coordinate aviation and ground assets during enforcement operations
• Search persons, vessels, baggage, and cargo for contraband or weapons
• Support federal law enforcement operations and border security missions
• Operate fixed-wing or rotary-wing aircraft in challenging environments and conditions
• Complete required law enforcement and aviation training programs

Requirements
• U.S. Citizen
• FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate or ATP Certificate (Airplane or Helicopter with Instrument Rating)
• FAA Class II Medical Certificate (Class I, Class II, or Military Medical acceptable to begin the hiring process)
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
• Ability to pass a background investigation and polygraph examination
• Ability to carry a firearm and maintain firearms qualification standards
• Ability to work rotating shifts and relocate as required
• Ability to sign a mobility agreement

Hiring Minimums
• 1,500 Total Flight Hours (waiver opportunities available)
• 250 Pilot-in-Command Hours
• 75 Instrument Hours
• 75 Night Hours
• 100 Flight Hours within the previous 12 months (currently waived through August 4, 2026)

Preferred Qualifications
• Airborne law enforcement experience
• Pilot in Command experience
• Certified Flight Instructor experience
• Military aviation experience
• Air intercept or surveillance mission experience
• Experience operating aircraft sensor systems or night vision equipment

Compensation
• GS-11 First Year Example Compensation: $110,636 (includes LEAP)
• GS-12 Second Year Example Compensation: $132,606 (includes LEAP)
• GS-13 Third Year Example Compensation: $157,686 (includes LEAP)
• Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP) – Additional 25% Compensation
• $10,000 Recruitment Incentive for eligible new federal employees upon successful completion of training requirements
