Description
Position Summary
The Chief Pilot is responsible for overseeing all company flight operations, ensuring compliance with applicable FAA regulations, company policies, and operational procedures. Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, the Chief Pilot supervises flight crews, manages pilot training and standards, supports hiring and operational planning, and maintains the highest standards of safety, professionalism, and regulatory compliance while serving as a flight crewmember as needed.
Responsibilities
• Ensure company flight operations comply with applicable FAA regulations and company policies
• Supervise and manage Lead Pilots and Pilots
• Review flight crew assignments
• Serve as a flight crewmember as required to maintain proficiency and currency
• Administer the Pilot Records Database (PRD) and ensure regulatory compliance
• Interview, hire, and terminate flight crew personnel in coordination with the Director of Operations and Human Resources
• Oversee new-hire pilot indoctrination training, background checks, and criminal history records
• Ensure required company manuals and operational documents are maintained onboard company aircraft
• Manage pilot and flight operations subscriptions and databases
• Designate check airmen, check pilots, and flight instructors
• Ensure pilot proficiency checks, route qualifications, and standardization requirements are maintained
• Disseminate operational information including routes, airports, NOTAMs, NAVAIDs, and company policies
• Review crew duty and flight logs for regulatory compliance
• Investigate aircraft accidents, reportable incidents, discrepancies, and flight violations
• Coordinate with the Director of Maintenance and Director of Operations to minimize operational disruptions
• Maintain liaison with FAA personnel on operational matters
• Participate in Manager on Duty (MOD) rotation, Standards Committee meetings, and Safety Committee meetings
• Serve as the Alternate AOSC (Security Coordinator) under the company’s Twelve Five Standard Security Program
Requirements
• FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate
• Current FAA Medical Certificate as required for flight operations
• Meet the requirements of 14 CFR Parts 119.7(c), 135.95, 135.247, 135.293, 135.297, and 135.299
• Extensive knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), ICAO regulations, the Airman’s Information Manual, and corporate flight operations
• Strong professionalism, communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
• Ability to sit for extended periods
• Ability to work in varying weather conditions
Preferred Qualifications
• College degree
• Three or more years of aviation management experience
