Position Summary
The Flight Instructor is responsible for providing professional flight, simulator, and ground instruction to students pursuing pilot qualifications through the university’s aviation programs. This position plays a key role in developing safe, knowledgeable, and confident pilots while supporting flight operations, aviation research activities, and maintaining compliance with Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) regulations and established operating procedures.

Schedule
• Full-Time (38 hours per week)
• On-site at Bankstown Airport
• Tuesday–Saturday or Sunday–Thursday roster
• Early morning, evening, and variable hours based on flight schedules, weather, aircraft availability, and student training requirements

Responsibilities
• Deliver flight, simulator, and ground instruction in accordance with CASA standards and approved training programs
• Guide students through each stage of their flight training while promoting safe operating practices and sound decision-making
• Evaluate student performance and maintain accurate training and operational records
• Ensure all instructional activities are conducted in accordance with university policies and aviation procedures
• Support operational, safety, and promotional initiatives within the School of Aviation
• Conduct student assessments and authorize first solo flights when appropriately qualified
• Participate as flight crew during airborne research operations when required
• Provide operational guidance and mentorship to instructors and students based on instructor qualifications and endorsements
• Conduct advanced multi-engine, instrument, and instructor training when authorized by CASA qualifications

Requirements
• Australian Air Transport Pilot License (ATPL) or Commercial Pilot License (CPL) with Aeroplane Category Rating
• Manual Propeller Pitch Control endorsement
• Retractable Undercarriage endorsement
• Instructor Rating with applicable CASA instructor endorsements appropriate to the instructor level
• Current medical, security, and drug and alcohol clearances required for flight instruction
• Demonstrated flight instructor experience appropriate to the advertised instructor level
• Thorough knowledge of CASA Part 61 Manual of Standards and Civil Aviation Safety Regulations
• Ability to successfully complete the university’s standardization and proficiency assessment
• Valid Australian working rights (visa sponsorship is not available)

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience delivering flight training within a university, integrated, or tertiary aviation program
• Multi-engine and instrument flight instruction experience
• Grade 1 Flight Instructor qualifications
• Experience conducting CASR Part 142 flight training
• Previous experience mentoring or supervising other flight instructors

Compensation
• AUD $80,038–$125,110 per year, depending on experience and qualifications
