Description

Position Summary
The Public Safety Helicopter Pilot performs flight operations in support of law enforcement, search and rescue, surveillance, aerial photography, and public safety missions. This position operates agency helicopters during specialized law enforcement activities and requires independent decision-making in dynamic and potentially hazardous environments.


Responsibilities
• Operate rotary-wing aircraft in support of criminal searches and apprehensions.
• Conduct search and rescue missions.
• Perform surveillance and aerial photography operations.
• Operate advanced avionics systems, moving map systems, and HD camera equipment.
• Assist law enforcement personnel during specialized operations.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding law enforcement activities and investigations.
• Comply with FAA regulations and Air Traffic Control procedures.
• Perform all pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight inspections and checks.
• Maintain flight logs, aircraft logs, and weather briefings.
• Conduct detailed flight planning and ensure aircraft readiness.
• Perform routine aircraft and rotor blade cleaning and maintenance.
• Conduct training flights and flight instructor duties.
• Maintain knowledge of local geography and roadway systems.
• Support emergency response operations, including hurricanes and other critical incidents.
• Work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.


Requirements
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Florida driver’s license.
• FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate – Rotorcraft Helicopter.
• Instrument Rating.
• FAA First or Second Class Medical Certificate.
• Minimum 500 hours Pilot-in-Command Rotorcraft Helicopter time.
• Minimum 100 hours Rotorcraft Helicopter Night Flight Time.
• Ability to meet all FAA regulatory requirements.
• Ability to pass extensive background screening and hiring process.


Preferred Qualifications
• Factory school training for current aircraft operated by the agency.
• Experience in current aircraft type operated by the agency.
• 100 hours Turbine Rotorcraft Helicopter time.
• 150 hours Rotorcraft Helicopter flight time within the previous 12 months.
• CFI Rotorcraft Helicopter.
• CFII Rotorcraft Helicopter.
• Prior law enforcement helicopter experience.
• Night Vision Imaging System (NVIS/NVG) qualification.

Compensation
• $124,369 – $175,000 annually.
• Florida-certified applicants receive an additional 4% supplement.
• Maximum compensation with supplement: $182,000 annually.
