Position Summary
The Supervisory Helicopter Pilot provides supervision and operational guidance to pilots while supporting aviation services for cooperators and stakeholders throughout the eastern region. This position supervises up to 30 intermittent and part-time pilots while also conducting helicopter operations, low-level flight activities, and aviation safety evaluations.

Schedule

Responsibilities
• Supervise up to 30 intermittent and part-time pilots.
• Complete supervisory administrative duties, including timesheet certification, performance evaluations, regular communication, and issue resolution.
• Develop pilot recruitment strategies, conduct interviews, and hire personnel.
• Develop performance standards and conduct performance reviews for subordinate personnel.
• Operate helicopters and meet established Low-Level Flight Standards.
• Conduct safety evaluations of personnel participating in aerial activities.
• Conduct safety evaluations of aircraft used in operations.
• Collaborate with aviation program, fleet, operations, and logistics management to support aviation services.

Requirements
• U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
• Current FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate or appropriate military pilot rating with ratings appropriate to the position.
• Current FAA First or Second Class Medical Certificate at initial appointment.
• Minimum 1,500 hours total flight time.
• Minimum 250 hours Pilot-in-Command.
• Minimum 75 hours night flight time; 25 hours may be waived under qualifying circumstances.
• Minimum 100 hours flight time within the previous 12 months.
• Minimum one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level.
• Experience operating light helicopters at low altitudes of approximately 100 feet AGL in varying terrain and cover types.
• Experience conducting aerial predator or feral swine control operations in mountainous environments.
• Low-level flight experience in Bell, MD, or similar helicopters.
• Experience supervising pilots or aerial crewmembers.
• Valid state driver’s license.
• Ability to successfully complete required background and fingerprint checks.
• Ability to successfully complete pre-employment and random drug testing.
• Ability to successfully complete required pre-employment medical evaluation.
• Selective Service registration or exemption when applicable.
